I've always been happy to do my nails. Shape them, care for them, polish them. I distinctly remember borrowing my Mum's nail polish, even though she only had a few limited colors to choose from. Then I started amassing my own collection of radically different colors, like electric blue, black and lime green.

The main reason for my love of colorful nails, was that all my life I had been in uniform. It was the norm where I grew up that all schools had a uniform and there was strict adherence to it. It doesn't help that ours was particularly awful with it's distinctly monotone use of grey, white and a smattering of turquoise blue (literally a few pinstripes). Within the sea of grey, I saw my nails as my own valid form of self-expression. My way of being different if you will. Among my friends, I was known for my nails, and I kind of liked it. Way back then, nail art was only really practised in salons and nail bars, and rarely done in the home. That didn't stop me from attempting to do my own, with sometimes laughable results.

Fast forward to two years ago and my own Husband, venturing to further my love of all things nails and nail art, purchased the Konad Classic Collection 2 for my birthday. HAPPY DAYS! That really is when this went from hobby to obsession. Thank you Hubby!

I purchase a lot on Amazon.com, and most of my nail art supplies came from there. Sometimes you can find some really good deals. The items I use most are -

SHANY Nail art set (24 color)

Bundle Monster Nail art Stamp set

Bundle Monster Nail art Stamp set 2

Mash 15 piece nail art brush set

While these may not be the most professional or expensive of sets, they do the job.

How it all began...
